I had the Boston Prep 16 miler today. This race is pretty hilly and designed to prepare you for Boston Marathon, hence the name! Yesterday, I received and email from the race coordinators saying
As to the point of being comfortable, DRESS WARM, NO SHORTS ALLOWED. The temperature at the start of the race will be near ZERO degrees (and that ain’t Celsius but Farenheit). It will battle the coldest starting temperature of -2 degrees about 5 years ago.
Who would run in shorts in this weather? But I suppose it probably has happened since they make a point to say this! Hopefully I can keep warm!
Last night, Dave watched the UFC fight and let me slowly fall asleep on the couch in order to get my rest for the race. I guess he got bored because he decided to take a picture of me. He often teases because I fall asleep with my hand holding my head up. He says it looks like I’m in deep thought. He also decided to put the dalmation pencil sharpener in the picture. This may be a recurring theme, somewhat like Where’s Waldo! Let’s call it Where’s Spot?
I got up early and packed up the van with some gear with my breakfast, fuel and after race clothing:
- Mint Chocolate and Plain Gu
- Strawberry Gu Chomps
- Under Armour Mask
- Under Armour Sweatshirt
- Sweatpants (thanks to Uncle Barry, Aunt Denise, and Cousins Shaye and Emmett!)
- Clean socks
My outfit for the day consisted of:
- Adidas running pants
- Ragnar 2010 technical shirt
- 2 Nike running shirts
- Fleece headband
- Nike running gloves
Once I got there, I parked and searched for Diana. We were both hesitant and unsure of how we would do at this race. This is the longest distance we all have done in our training for Boston Marathon so far. We were aiming for a 9-10 min pace. I ended up doing much better! I had an average pace of 7:57! I finished strong and then headed in for some pizza and water!
