Running with SASS!

So I’ve been oober busy, so we have a ton of blogger interviews!  This one is from someone who also went through a big move!  She actually recently went through a move her self as she moved into her new HOUSE!

Meet Heather from  Running with Sass!

What do you do for a living?  How did you get your job and what do you love about it?

I used to teach 5th grade, but now I am a travel agent! I book mostly Disney related vacations, but I can book almost anything! I was lucky to get my job almost a year ago, and I love being able to work form home on my own schedule. This is great for workouts! I do have to force myself to get out of the house or I would stay at home 24/7!

What is a typical week like for you regarding workouts?

Right now I am not training for anything so I am doing 3 short runs a week. I am also cross training 4 times a week (yes the days overlap!) I am specifically in the middle of Jillian Michael’s 6 weeks to 6 pack DVD! I also am lifting weights and I like to go on walks with my husband and two dogs.

What advice can you give to someone just trying to get into a healthy lifestyle?

Stick with it, and don’t overwhelm yourself. When I started getting healthy, I picked ONE small habit I could change/stat at a time. Once I got a handle on it, I would add another one. If you try to change everything all at once, it is likely you will end up giving up because it is so hard to do a complete change overnight. Small changes add up, so start there and celebrate each victory!

Did you know she was on the cover of FIT magazine?!

How do you balance work, social life, fitness and everything else?

Just moving to a new town I don’t have much of a social life right now! I force myself to make work hours, because if I don’t I would work on and off all day. I need to separate my time so I am no on and off the computer all day long. I try to have everything done by time my husband gets home form work so we can spend quality time together. We run in the evenings a lot of times, so I will just do my strength workout or DVD during the day and save my run to do with him at night.

What is your favorite healthy snack?

I LOVE fruit, especially berries, so smoothies are a big hit with me. I also am currently loving Chobani strawberry banana greek yogurt!

How did you get your blog name?

One of my dogs is named Sassy. When I was in high school, my basketball coach called me “Sassy” because I was a girly girl, but once I got on the basketball court I was totally different. I added sass and spunk to a sport, and that coupled with my dogs name created my nickname. So, when coming up with what to call my blog, I knew I wanted to balance the athleticism with the fun and girly, so RWS was born!

How did you get into blogging?

I used to have a Xanga back in the day (anyone remember those?) and I have always loved writing. When I started running, I decided to use a blog as a training log/way to keep myself accountable for my workouts, and it has evolved into an everyday thing I love to do!

What advice can you give to a new blogger?

Be yourself, and write a blog YOU would want to read. Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers, it’s a disapointing game that will make you feel not so good about yourself. I try to blog about things I would want to read about, and be HONEST!

I LOVE MY FELLOW BLOGGERS!  I especially love Heather’s advice for a new blogger!  It’s so difficult to get caught up in “how many followers do I have.”  I feel like this has been a popular topic on twitter and the blogs lately.  It’s good to get a reality check and not feel bad about if you have the 1000 followers or not!

Though, I have to admit, I get all smiley whenever you all comment!  I love talking and it’s so much fun to hear what you all say.  So even if I don’t have the 500 comments that some other bloggers have, I am so happy to have my 5 or 10.  :)

Thanks so much for reading!

Day 2 of MVing will happen after I get my official LAST long run done today.  8 miles!! Since I’m sore, I’m going to take it easy!

If you are a blogger, do you find yourself getting caught up in the number of followers?
I think about it, but I try to blog for myself and blog true to myself.  Hopefully I come off genuine and sincere! :)

What is YOUR favorite healthy snack?  (I need some new ideas!)
I love fruit!!  I am like Heather and love Chobani greek yogurt and then throwing some fruit and Grapenuts in!

  1. great interview! WOW cnt believe you were on the cover on a mag!!! i love jillians dvds too!

  2. yay! I love Heather, she's awesome! And i definitely used to have a Xanga too! I'm just me on my blog, and that's all i can ask for :)

  3. Blogging is a fun way to register my mild running accomplishments and I am in front of the computer more than I am going to write in a journal so it is helpful to me! I don't have hardly any followers but the ones I have are important to me so I make an effort to comment on their blogs. I am a new runner and have already received support via emails and the few comments per post really do help. I was shocked when I got followers honestly so I don't care at all if people follow me.

My favorite healthy snack is Diet Swiss Miss, and I love the WW low point ice creams. I am trying to wean myself off of these "processed" foods but I can't help it. I gave up DDP so a girl needs SOMETHING. I love fruit, any roasted vegetable, and honestly I am loving hummus lately with strips of red bell pepper to dip in it.

My farvorite snack is pb and apples or air popped popcorn with popcorn seasoning. Your are right it is very easy to get wrapped up in how many followers you have. But more than followers I love reading other people blogs. They inspire me to do better and not to be myself up about the small things. Great interview with Heather. Look forward to reading more on hear blog. Thanks

  5. Hey girlie! Thanks for letting me do the interview! Had fun answering the questions!

  6. Great interview!!! I sometimes get caught up in followers but I primarily am blogging for me with the hope I can inspire others. My favorite snack is vanilla greek yogurt with strawberries, chia seeds and wheat germ…I know a little weird but I love the different textures.

  8. Great interview!!

Don't know if I ever commented here before but I'm a reader/lurker of your blog, but as an official follower of course!

I blog, and I do sometimes get caught up in the stats and page views and follower count. I have to give myself a peptalk usually- "just be me, don't worry that all other blogs are blowing up with followers, just be me"

Fave snack? I usually reach for Chobani as well… but I love me a PB sandwich and an apple occasionally =)
