I finally had my swim date with Sarah from Daily Mile! To start the morning, Carrie and I went for a bike ride along the bike path. I was prepared this time with my bike pump, extra tube, and patch kit! We showered quickly after our ride and hopped in the car to drive over to the BSC at South Station.
Carrie and I got there before Sarah, so we warmed up a bit. Then Sarah arrived a bit distraught because she was a few minutes late. Really it was no biggie! We enjoyed the time to get used to the pool.
DRILL #1: CATCHUP
First thing we learned is that you should keep your body long. We learned a drill called “Catch up.” In Catchup you isolate one of your arms in front and then the other arm performs the stroke. You then switch arms.embedded by Embedded Video
DRILL #2: FINGERTIP DRAG
This drill helps you have a high elbow recovery and keep your body balanced.embedded by Embedded Video
DRILL #3: Zipper
This is an alteration of the fingertip drag in which you drag your thumb from your hip to your armpit.embedded by Embedded Video
COOL POOL TOYS!
Sarah also introduced Carrie and I to Zoomers! These babies will help us with speed and so that we can improve leg strength. I already ordered a pair! They should be here in a week!
We also met the pull buoy. I loved this too because it helped me focus on my arm movement!
And the kickboard. We can use the kick board to focus on our leg workout. Sarah watched Carrie and I to make sure we weren’t using our knees too much. It’s more in the hips!
I am actually VERY excited about my next swim session so that I can use all these drills! I also was very flattered because Sarah said that I had good endurance and she was impressed that it was only my 4th time swimming when she first saw me!
