Last night I made it to aerial (antigravity) yoga at South Boston Yoga and I did this!
Pretty cool, huh?
The class was definitely interesting. For some poses you are completely in the fabric like a cocoon! I definitely don’t recommend this class if you are claustrophobic!
I felt like some of the move worked my arms very differently than regular yoga because you have to use a pulling motion. You do some similar poses as regular yoga such as forward folds and downward dogs but they use different muscles or stretch different parts of your body. You can potentially stretch yourself more because you can let the gravity pull your body more into the position. There were a few I couldn’t really get the most out of because my arm strength was not fully there and I’d fall if I even attempted the full pose!
Overall I thought the class was interesting and different, but I am not quite sure if it will be a regular thing for me. The fabric smelled a little funny to me and I think I like Vinyasa classes better. But I still am really glad that I tried the class and suggest everyone giving it a try at least once! Maybe if I wanted to get real good at this I could quit my job and try out for Cirque Du Soleil!
Hip Update: Before class my hips were experiencing some pinching pain. It wasn’t a soreness, it was stinging and pinching. During the class, there was a move that I felt pain in my hip and had to stop. I am definitely glad I didn’t cancel my PT appointments and am going to report this to my PT this Friday when I meet up with him! I hope it really is just me getting used to the hip strengthening, but it being more of a stinging than a soreness has me worried!
What is something new you have tried or would like to try?
Aerial yoga is the most recent new thing I’ve tried! I am not sure what my next new activity will be, but I’m excited for it already!

Great moves! Wish I could’ve gone…thanks for the update!
I've really been wanting to try it too. I've done silks a few times and enjoy it (and I agree, the fabric smells weird. I think they smell like feet!)
Hey Jess! I'm not much of a yoga person but have to admit that that looks pretty cool!
