Happy Birthday Dave and swim on!

June 3, 2012

Today is Dave’s birthday!!  We did the main celebration yesterday when we went to the photography workshop and had dinner with his family.  We had ICE CREAM CAKE!!!  I think I may want ice cream cake at my wedding some day.  Just sayin’ :)

As for the workshop was interesting for us because we learned how photographers really are great artists and engineers.  They have to really plan out the shot and it takes a lot of patience and time to develop a good eye.  You also have to find ways to keep your viewer interested and find a way to create a “return,” which means a way to bring them back into the image instead of out of the frame.  Photographers only take a few “great” pictures a year that they just can’t stop looking at and the rest are just good or ok.  One thing we learned about was leading lines. You use a line of some sort to draw you into the picture, and I used my hand for this one…

Dave and I have some work to do on our photos, and we know it will take some time but are excited about the new hobby since I am not quite sure when I will return to running.  My hips have been sore almost every day and I’m thinking running should still be on the no-go list.  But I think I’m going to give swimming a try to see if my hips hurt during that.  I’ve been avoiding trying it because to be quite honest, I get extremely bored swimming!  Maybe I will learn to love it like I learned to love running.

I used to DESPISE running with a huge passion.  I remember that I quit track and that I would come up with any excuse not to run when I was doing it on my own, like “It’s raining out” (when it really was just barely spitting any water out of the sky).  But before I knew it, I was writing a blog about running and jealous of other people who could run.

I’ve been  keeping up with my PT exercises so that I can strengthen.  Yesterday I did the following:

3×15 leg lifts per leg
3×10 clamshells per leg with resistance band (make the noises still)
1×20 bridging leg lifts
3 hip/knee stretches
3 quad stretches
1×60 sec pigeon pose
1×60 sec plan

Now I’m off to try to swim…wish me luck!  And after swimming and some food prep for the week, we are going to our dinner for Dave’s birthday at Tryst.  I got a Living Social deal for it, and my friend says she thinks its one of the best in Arlington, so we both are pretty excited about it!

What is something that you didn’t like that you learned to love?

Running :)

What is one of your hobbies besides your fitness hobby?

I like cooking and finding new recipes.  I wish I had more time to dedicate to it, but I suppose now that I’m not running as much I might be able to! :)
