Morning Swim and Getting Tough

July 13, 2012

I got up this morning and headed to the pool with a workout my friend Emma had written for me.  I didn’t complete it all because it was more than I normally do (which is just freestyle at a comfortable speed) and I wasn’t quite sure on how to do some of the strokes.  I am hoping to visit the pool sometime with her so she can teach me!

Warm-up
200 yd swim
200 yd kick
200 yd pull
stretch/water

Main Set
6×100 yd freestyle (she said to push it, so I did!)
100 yd pull

Cool-down
100 yd kick
100 yd catch up

I swam this morning because I wanted to get a light workout in today but didn’t want to do anything that might really irritate my hips.  Why?  Because I am going to try to do Tough Mudder tomorrow!  I know I have to be smart and listen to my body.  It is good to fight through pain during a race, but there is a limit and I am going to make sure I know that limit.  I don’t want to be out of commission for an even longer time!

After the workout, I fueled with a bagel with lox, onions and cream cheese for Sportello’s infamous bagel friday!  Because I’m leaving today for Vermont’s Tough Mudder I enjoyed my breakfast by the water and then headed home to finish packing.  Perfect morning.  Yes.

What are you doing this weekend?

Have you ever gone past your pain limit and regretted it?
