Recovery Swim and some Girl QT!

July 17, 2012

I actually enjoyed the swimming portion of Tough Mudder and wanted to get some more swim time in so last night after work I decided to fit in a quick 20 min recovery swim. The pool was pretty packed so I actually had to wait about 10 minutes before I could get in, but it was worth the wait.

I didn’t feel like showering at the gym so hopped back into my clothes and headed home to shower. But before I got clean, I went for a half mile jog to test out the hips. My quads were pretty sore from Tough Mudder, but my hips didn’t feel too bad. This is great progress!

I am wondering if I am almost healed, I just need to continue incorporating other exercise to strengthen and slowly bring back some road running into my life. In the meantime, I’m really considering looking into some trail running!

After I decided I would actually get clean and shower, I headed to the Saloon in Davis Square to meet up with my running ladies Jamie and Kristina. We hadn’t really had any non-running time or girl talk in a long time since I haven’t been going to running events, so we decided to change that.

We all enjoyed a yummy drink and then we got the deviled egg appetizer. They had a little pickle on top which added a nice little tang.

For dinner I got the Bubble and Squeak, roasted sausage, mashed root vegetables, shaved brussels sprouts, winter leeks, onion gravy. I really think Dave would like this meal so I have to bring him here to give it a try.

I don’t have drinks too often so when I got home, I was about ready to just fall asleep! And…I did! I zonked out on the couch while Dave watched some TV and we headed to bed early. It was ok though because we had to get up early to head to the hospital for my x-ray and sports doctor appointment. I’m waiting as we speak!

I’m excited to find out what has been bothering my hips for so long. But at the same time, I’m thankful that it wasn’t anything too serious and they seem to be healing…I mean…I did just complete Tough Mudder! I also think it was a good little reality check that I need to incorporate more cross training into my routines. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you all posted!

Do you like trail running?

I really like road running, but the fact that my hips weren’t bothered by the trail running made me so happy. Plus, I think it will strengthen my ankles!

What is one of your favorite recovery workouts?

Dare I say that I may be starting to like swimming?!

Are you a lightweight?

I’m definitely a cheap date! But good thing because Dave is still in school!

  1. I get drunk pretty quickly – I try to space out drinks and sometimes I switch to club soda and lime pretty early in the night. I like the atmosphere of Saloon but I'm not a big fan of the food – I'm vegetarian and the menu is pretty meat heavy.
