Running Swappy!

July 11, 2012

Me = swappy

Swappy = sweaty + happy

Last night I went for about a 1.5 mile jog at about a 10 min pace.  Before I ran, I did some dynamic stretching (leg swings and donkey kicks) and then walked to the Minuteman Bike path.  I jogged a half a mile and then stopped to do some stretching.  I continued on and was paying close attention to how my hips were feeling.

My right hip had ZERO pain!  I was ecstatic!  BUUUUUT, my left hip and leg was bothering me a bit.  The adductor muscles were really tight and the outside of my hip was feeling a little bit of pain in a centralized location.  It wasn’t stinging like I have had before, but it wasn’t feeling right.

People kept telling me to be really careful and maybe just rest completely.  This is the smart thing, BUT I am so glad I did this trial run because it helped me figure out more about my status.  When I sit all day at work, BOTH hips experience pain, but when I ran, only the left hip hurt.  This could be good because maybe it is related to a weakness in the hips.  Now I can be more detailed about how my hips are feeling so my doctor and/or PT can know as much as possible and fix me fast!  I guess it was the engineer inside me that I had to run a test and analyze the results :)

When I got home from my run, I did the P90x ab ripper workout and iced.  During one of the moves, my left hip popped everytime I did the move.  Something is definitely up with that left hip!  I am going to continue to strength train and lay off the running, but I am going to try to pick up some biking and swimming.  My sports doctor appointment is July 30th, but my coworker knows someone that is going to try to get me in sooner!

If you have an injury, do you ever do a trial workout to see whats up?

Did you get swappy this morning?
