Btone Fitness – My first pilates experience!

August 29, 2012

I was oober productive yesterday at work because I didn’t want to have to work late and miss my first Btone Fitness class with the instructor Emily!  Kristina and Aki had told me about Btone and I signed up for the deal immediately-6 classes for $60 and first timers have their first class for $5!  The classes are pilates based on the SPX Megaformer which I like to call the devil (just kidding of course!  It was amazing!).

I was the only newbie to the Megaformer in this class and Emily said she’d help adjust it for me.  She had quite the personality.  I loved her jokes and upbeat attitude because it kept me entertained as my hips burned (in a good way) building their strength.  I also got quite the arm workout.  I love seeing some definition develop-I was that person who stares at the arms in the mirror…I mean my friend Rosemary DID say that my triceps were looking good! :)

Oh wait-and not only did it work my hips and arms and everything else on my body, but the troubled core area that everyone wants defined-it definitely hit that spot too.  We had to do some moves that Emily described as the, “Oh I dropped the TV remote off the bed, I am going to lean over and pick it up but I may just fall over!”  Yes, I did feel like I may fall of the darn megaformer…but I didn’t!  And my abs were on fire!

I am not going to lie-I was a bit nervous for my first class.  The SPX Megaformer looks a bit intimidating, but it actually is pretty easy to use.  I left this class with my legs feeling a bit shaky and my hips crying for more.  Emily hit it right on the spot when she said that most athletes just work their front and back but the side muscles are neglected.  I mean…that’s how I got injured!

I’m looking forward to incorporating some more pilates in my life to get me back in my running days.  I really really can’t wait to get back into marathon training! Is it crazy to say that all I want is to run 20 milers?! As I was walking over Btone, all I could think about was running track workouts, tempos and my first 5k back. I probably will be dreaming of running tonight!  For now, I’ll have to look forward to my next session with Emily or the next lucky instructor to have me bug them to take a picture with me!

Oh and no worries, I haven’t forgotten about my 30 day yoga challenge!  I started early, but the official start is September 1st.  You should join me!  Don’t be afraid if you are a newbie I am not doing a full on yoga session every day.  Last night I did a quick 5 minute session, which included a few vinyasas, pigeon pose, and happy baby!  However Monday night-even though I was exhausted-I managed to get a 45 minute yoga workout in thanks to YogaGlo! I did yet another class by Tiffany Cruikshank but this time it was “Cross Training for Runners” which makes it 4 days in a row of her classes for me! Even though I am starting to fall in love with YogaGlo, I am not going to commit after my free trial just yet. I want to explore the other options and make sure YogaGlo is the right service for me. Next I am going to give Gaiam TV a go!

What is your favorite way to get a workout done at home?

Mixing it up and getting a different workout either from an online video or Pinterest!

Do you dream about working out?

I don’t normally dream about working out unless it is before a race-then sometimes I have weird dreams because of pre-race jitters!

Have you done a workout recently that made you say, “Gee golly, I’m weak!”?

Yes…every workout now adays seems to remind me how weak my hips are!  It just motivates me more and more to strengthen those hips and prove them that they CAN run again!
