Good nights begin with broken shoes! Congrats Maggie and Drew!

August 5, 2012

Friday afternoon, Dave, Kurt, Kim, Tom and I hopped in the car to head to Milwaukee for our friends Maggie and Drew’s wedding. On our way there, Kim and I decided to have the boys all sit in the back just for fun. We had a car point and laugh at us since the sight of two small women in the front of the seat and 3 men, including one that is super tall is quite the sight.

We changed at the hotel and then headed for the wedding. There was traffic so we were getting a little nervous about making it to the wedding on time. We ended up having to run to the church from our parking spot (which was not in the church parking lot because we couldn’t figure out how to get there!) and as we entered the church we saw the bride Maggie standing there with her dad waving to us and waving us on to get our tushes seated. No sooner did we get our seats and then she started to walk down the aisle. She looked beautiful and so happy! Maggie got teary eyed at some parts and I saw her sneak a tissue form her dress pocket (um a wedding dress with pockets = amazing!). The ceremony was only a half an hour but had all the important parts.

Everyone left the church to head to the reception but we picked up our gifts from the hotel and walked over but before we even made it there I stubbed my shoe on an uneven edge of the sidewalk and my sandal broke! Dave carried me over his shoulder for a little while and then I sucked it up and walked on the ground, being careful to watch for glass.

We finally made it to the PBR brewery!  Even though it looks like the guys are holding huge burritos, they are actually holding the sleeping bags and blanket we got for Maggie and Drew.  I hope we can all go camping sometime together-that would be a lot of fun!

Once we got inside, I thankfully found out that our friend Tammy had an extra pair of flip flops that I could wear.  She sure saved me!  I didn’t mind being barefoot for the reception, but the walk back to the hotel wasn’t going to be too much fun.  After that was settled, there was an open bar and delicious appetizers to explore. There was such a great variety of food and it was all so delicious!  And instead of a cake, they had a candy bar!  I stocked up on gummy bears for my goody bag and then hit the dance floor which was OUTSIDE!  It was so much fun dancing out underneath the stars!

Later in the night my foot started to hurt so Dave and I went in and sat down.  Maggie caught us and asked the bartender for some ice for me which was so nice!  But then the night came to an end.  We had to leave our friends and head back to the hotel to get up early to travel back to Chicago.  We all hope we can get together more often, but plane flights often make it more difficult.  Maybe Dave and I will have to have a big party soon and invite all our friends! ;)

But for now…Congrats Maggie and Drew!  Have a great honeymoon!

Do you like small or large weddings?

I like both for different reasons.  All of the ones I have been to have been so unique in their own way!

What is the most interesting wedding gift you have given someone?

Dave and I gave Kurt and Kim a shake weight as a joke gift which I used when I visited them! :)  (Don’t worry, we gave them a real gift too!)

Do you have a lot of long distance friends?

I have a few.  I try to keep in touch via email mostly and then have phone dates!  I haven’t seen my friend who lives in Arizona in years-hopefully we can schedule a visit! :)
