Amsterdam Falafel Shop in Davis Square

September 5, 2012

This weekend we visited Amsterdam Falafel Shop which just recently opened up in Davis Square. I was telling Dave and Rob how good falafel was and they asked, “What is it?” I didn’t know! Amsterdam Falafel Shop’s website says that “Falafel is a deep fried crispy ball made from ground chickpeas and spices.” Dave was surprised there was no meat in it because it was so filling. I was unusually full, but that might have been because I got the regular size which has 5 balls of falafel! Next time I’m only getting the small (3 balls)!

After you get your falafel, you are supposed to break the falafel balls so that when you put sauces on them, the sauces cover more area.

If you aren’t feeling the whole sandwich/pita deal, you can go for the falafel bowl. I might try this next time because it is a bit messy eating the sandwich and you can get the toppings over more falafel. With the sandwich, you pretty much just have the toppings on the top and all falafel on the bottom.

After eating, Dave, Rob and I felt like that woman in the gum commercial-our breath reeked of falafel. But at least we knew that we all had the same bad breath and it was well worth it for the deliciousness of the sandwich!

This will be another regular spot for Dave and I but the downside is that there isn’t a lot of seating. In the summer or nice weather it isn’t a problem because you can go eat out in the square, but winter time may be another story!

What is one food that you love that always gives you bad breath?

I don’t know why, but I really like red onions on my salads, burgers, or meals. It just adds a nice taste! But my breath will smell for hours!
