Get Loose & Get Strong in the Hips with Kathryn Budig from YogaGlo

September 13, 2012

Yesterday was a jam packed day at work. I was feeling pretty drained and my hips were a bit tight-so I turned to YogaGlo for a workout. I love pretty much every yoga sesh with Tiffany Cruikshank, but I decided it was time for me to make a new friend.

I found “Get Loose & Get Strong in the Hips” with Kathryn Budig. I could tell right off the bat that Kathryn had a goofy side to her, which means her and I would probably get a long well! We started comfortably in happy baby and then the class picked up pace really fast.  Throughout the workout, we repeated a flow of poses which were difficult at first but once I got the hang of it I felt like I was doing a dance and looked elegant. We all know that I didn’t really look elegant, but it’s how you feel that counts, right?!

Kathryn said if we were comfortable to attempt some straddle pikes. This was the first time that I was introduced to this move and initial few times I pushed off with a little too much power…I almost flipped over. You actually don’t need to push off very hard because the momentum from when your legs kicking out brings you up. Towards the end of this quick 30 minute class, I was getting the hang of straddle pikes and actually was just practicing them for fun!

I’m so excited about improving my practice and doing some of these more interesting and challenging poses.  Kathryn might be a good person to help me with these! I stalked some of her other classes on YogaGlo and she had a lot of classes that you worked on inversions and arm balances like her “Foundations of Handstand”, “Arm Balancing for Beginners”, “Tap Your Arm Balance Potential” and plenty more!  She also has a lot of advanced classes that I hope to work up to.

I actually put her “Super Lunge Flow” class in my YogaGlo queue for tonight! I love that YogaGlo added this feature because there are too many classes that interest me that it’s difficult to keep track of them all! Now I can not only put them in the queue but also put them in my YogaGlo calendar! Woot woot!

This 30 day yoga challenge is coming along pretty darn well. Since I started the challenge before everyone else, I have already done 25 days of yoga in a row!! BUT I am going to continue with the challenge throughout the end of September with everyone else who started at the official challenge start date of September 1st! :)

Have you ever falling in a yoga class?

If you said no, I don’t believe you! Whenever I try to take it a step farther in my practice, I will lose balance and fall or almost fall. I don’t mind if I fall because it just means that I am exploring if I can take it to the next level!

Do you ever feel like you could connect with someone you read about or watch online or on tv?

All the time. I’ve met so many great friends from online that it’s crazy. And there are a ton of people I still want to meet like these teachers from YogaGlo!
