Healthworks Workplace Warriors Challenge 2012

October 9, 2012

My coworkers and I are pretty pumped because we just entered the Healthworks Workplace Warrior Challenge.  What is it you may ask?  It’s a challenge that combines fitness and competition…two of my favorite things!

Each Healthworks location has two teams of 8 women from the same organization that will be assigned a personal trainer.  The personal trainer will give initial and final fitness assessments and a group personal training session once a week.  Each participant also has a free small group training class she must attend as well.

In the end, the team with the greatest cumulative  percentage change and strongest group attendance win!  The winners get a haircut/blowout/style at Corbu Spa & Salon at The Charles Hotel AND a pair of Mizuno Elixir running sneakers thanks to the Heartbreak Hill Running Company!  Oh-heck yah I want to win!  And so do my girls!

Meet the Team!

Because we are all designers it only seemed natural that we be called The TROJB Design Team.   We strive to succeed not only in the workplace by designing and engineering buildings but also in our personal lives by designing a healthy lifestyle.  A few of us have created our own running group, completed a 30 day yoga challenge together, attend fitness classes, and share healthy recipes all the time.

At the same time, not all of us are fitness freaks and need a little extra motivation to get moving again.  Participating in the Healthworks Workplace Warrior challenge will give us the opportunity to share our passions, inspiring others and one another to make strides in both their careers and our fitness.

There should be never be the excuse that “I had to work too much so I couldn’t exercise”.  We can show everyone, including ourselves, that they too can lead a healthy lifestyle with the help of Healthworks and some motivation!

So here, I present to you…the TROJB Design Team!

Jess (oh yah-that’s me!) started running leisurely only to find that she was a marathon addict. This addiction then lead to a recent injury in the last Boston Marathon. She is currently working on finding a more balanced workout to strengthen her body and be ready for that next marathon!

Margaret, “the Reformer”, is a current Healthworks member who fell in love with pilates and the reformer classes. She is our Workplace Warrior team leader and dedicated to get her coworkers involved in a regular fitness routine.  She is also our very well versed in her Zumba moves!

Aki, “Yoga Ninja”, just recently finished her 30 day yoga challenge and also is just starting to get into running with the help of Little Miss Runshine. She soon realized how much she could love running and find a new way to fitness.  Her hope is to meet some of the Healthworks team to find even more new ways to stay fit!

Erin, “the Non-Runner, Runner”, recently got diagnosed with “runner’s knee” which was partially brought on due to her lack of exercise.  Although Erin is already a Healthworks member she is looking for some extra motivation to actually use her gym membership.  Erin is craving some expert advice on how to strengthen her body to prevent these aches and pains.

Ewelina, “the Racewalker”, will out walk you before you even know you are racing. She used to love her ballroom dancing and running track, but now she needs some inspiration for a newfound fitness hobby. She is ready to racewalk to her Healthworks adventure!

Rosemary, “Ms. Durable”, is so dedicated to her fitness that she continued to work out while nursing a broken hand. She loves a good pilates and yoga session but also enjoys running . Ms. Durable won’t let any old injury get in her way of leading a healthy lifestyle.

Emma, “Natural Born Triathlete”, enjoys training for races because she loves how it makes her more efficient and productive at work. Having a training session scheduled for the day forces her to get her work done. She grew up as a swimmer, learned to love running after college and has just gotten into cycling. She recently has completed the Trek Across Maine, a 180 mile ride that raises money to fight lung cancer and needs a new challenge to conquer-the Healthworks Workplace Warrior Challenge!

Sam, “the WO-man”, is open minded in trying almost anything-whether it is boxing, zumba, yoga, or whatever the new fitness fad is. She is really excited to try out all the different classes and find a new fitness routine that she will be able to keep up.

Think my team is fun?  Well wait until you see our video!  We toyed with a few ideas but it came down to one….remaking Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”.  We re-wrote the lyrics to explain how much we need Healthworks in our life.  Some of us don’t have gym memberships and we need to find whatever way we can to work out…even if it is doing squats in the middle of a team meeting…Check out our video called “Train Me Maybe”:

Yup!  I workout with whoever!  I think it’s a great way to bond with someone.

Do you have team bonding outside of the office?

I have to say that I am lucky enough that I don’t lack in the team bonding outside of the office.  So many of my coworkers are friends that I can talk to more than just duct sizes and system design to!
