My best friend from home Ashley had gotten her husband Derek a tent for his birthday. So the next logical thing would be to go on a camping trip! Ashley wanted to surprise Derek by inviting Dave and me on the trip this past weekend. They were planning on stopping by the Mayflower Brewing Company before they headed to the Myles Standish State Forrest campground so Dave and I got there early.
We sat in the car and when we saw them drive up, I ducked while Dave sat straight back. Ashley and Derek started walking to the brewery and were about to enter when Dave and I jumped out of the car and I shouted, “Excuse me, sir! Can you hold the door open for me?!” He had no idea! It was perfect!
Once we got in, we got started right away. But first can we please note that Ashley and I loved that we both were wearing vibrant orange. I mean-we didn’t want to get shot while we were out in the wilderness! This could also help our boys keep track of us if we wandered off to explore in the middle of the night. But for right then, we settled for exploring the beer.
They had 6 different beers we tried which included four of their regular brews and 2 seasonal. My favorite was the Porter because I love the chocolate/coffee flavor. Mmm Mmm Mmm! They filled the glasses a decent amount for a tasting so we just hung around, took our time, and caught up until one of the employees took us on a tour of the back. We learned about the brewing process, a little history of Plymouth and also got to see the bottling machine they used. It was a short but informative tour and really personal since it was just the four of us!
After the tour I had spotted some race medals. Apparently, Mayflower Brewing Company sponsors the 26.2 Challenge which is a 5 person relay for the marathon distance. After the race there is of course a big celebration with some Mayflower beer. Maybe I’ll have to do this race sometime and keep my eye on the prize…the porter!
We had our fill of beer and then decided it was time to head to the campground. We had a little setback as there was a woman on the campsite that was supposed to be ours. She had been there for nearly 3 weeks now! The campground assigned us to a new site which actually was nicer because it had a waterfront view.
We eventually got hungry and made some dinner. It was a sad day when I went to get my hot dog and it fell on the ground. Luckily I had already eaten my Bubba burger and the delicious pasta salad made by Ashley. I wasn’t too heart broken because I knew I had to save some room for my favorite…S’MORES!
I’m not sure what Dave is doing in the above picture. Oh that’s right-I surprised jumped attacked him when Ashely said she’d take our picture so he got a little startled! Or maybe it was because he was mad at me for winning pretty much every single game of bullsh$t (a card game where the objective is to get rid of all of your cards first) that we played. The funny thing was that I never lied or BS-ed. I just got really lucky with my cards (…well-we also had a “pass” rule that was allowed).
Overall it was a great camping trip even with it pouring when we woke up. This morning we pretty much packed up and headed out for some brunch. Can’t wait to camp next year!
Have you ever been camping before? What is your favorite part?
The foooood and sitting by the fire!
What is your fave card game to play?
I actually don’t play a lot of card games. I might like poker though even though I’m not so good at it!
Are you a golden brown marshmallow person or a burnt and crispy?
I like my mallows golden brown so I am patient when toasting them-well worth the wait! Dave on the other hand sacrifices his mallow to the fire and let’s it burn!
