My First Tabata and Healthworks Essential Pilates

November 1, 2012

My team members and I have been trying to get as many different classes as we could done in our Workplace Warrior Challenge.  So far I have been to cardio strike, urban rebounding, body pump, vinyasa yoga and bootycamp.  And I’m happy to say that yesterday morning I added 3 more classes to my list!!  Rosemary and I did core, Tabata TBX, AND essential pilates!  It was insane + amazing = insanely amazing!

I got the gym early to foam roll and stretch before my slew of classes.  Class was just about to start when Rosemary popped inside.  She started to set up but soon realized this wasn’t Tabata and I had semi-tricked her into attending a 15 minute core class with me before our planned class!  We both agreed that the core session was AHHH-mazing because my abs were burning!  I know that these are all moves I can do on my own, but sometimes I just don’t have the discipline to do abs because I get bored.  The instructor Katie was fun and entertaining so I’ll definitely visit her again for another class-oh in fact-I DID!  For Tabata!

I didn’t really know what Tabata was and I still don’t know how to properly pronounce it, but it was a great workout for sure.  Healthworks describes Tabata as intense 20 second intervals of work and 10 seconds of rest over 4 minutes to help you burn fat and strengthen every muscle.  Intense intervals?  You betcha they were!  I had to switch to some lighter weights for some of the intervals because my arms are getting tired from all the work I’m doing now that I’ve become a Healthworks Workplace Warrior.  I definitely can tell that my body is changing and I’m feeling healthier and stronger.

I have to admit that after this Tabata class I was ready to shower and head to work, but Rosemary spoke to quickly for me to make any excuse.  She said, “Come on Jess!  We have to hurry up and get downstairs to pilates!”  I did as requested and headed down to see Aki’s smiling face!  This was my first mat pilates class and it may be a workout I include more of in my life.  I loved that it was relaxing in a way like yoga but intense at the same time.  Yoga can be intense too but this was just different.  Once I go to a few more classes I think I’ll be able to explain why.

Our instructor was Amanda and I think I slightly freaked her out by asking her to take a pic with me!  PS-isn’t her outfit adorable?!  I want!  But Amanda was a great sport and partook so that I could blog-o-fy her :)

This morning was my second session of CrossFit at the Reebok CrossFit Back Bay gym.  I’ll update you later on how that went!

Have you ever gone to multiple classes in a row?

I sometimes will do some working out on my own before/after a class but I haven’t done multiple classes in a row until today!

Do you sometimes want other people’s workout outfits?

I always am looking for new workout clothes, so I sometimes even ask people where they got theirs!
