Because I was crazy and signed up for the Reebok CrossFit Back Bay OnRamp program in addition to the Healthworks Workplace Warrior challenge, I had a class yesterday morning. Let me tell you…it was NOT easy getting up for that 6:30 am class. I would have bailed if it weren’t for Dave saying we should go. My body was so sore from having both Monday morning CrossFit and Monday night training with Heidi, but somehow I did manage to rock the WOD.
We had trainers Bern and Marisa again. I love them! They are very friendly and really care about making sure you get the form down right so today was no exception. The workout included a warm up and then an AMRAMP, which means you repeat the routine until the time is up.
250 m row
12 sit ups
10 min. AMRAMP
20 front squats
20 walking lunges
20 push presses
I ended up getting in 4 rounds of the AMRAMP workout and an additional 14 front squats. I was going to head to head with another guy in the group, Jon, who was doing better than me at the squats but I excelled at the walking lunges. The only bummer was that my hips started to hurt in the squats and Jon’s shoulder was hurting from the presses. I was getting a little worried but I powered through (safely).
After we finished our workout, Bern decided we had to have a bonus move…a plank with a 25 lb weight on your back. I don’t know if it is weird…but I kind of had fun doing it…so much fun that I decided to do some more planks at work with other objects I could find to put on my back…
Hey! I gotta get ready for my Healthworks Workplace Warrior Challenge final assessment! I am going to kill that plank! 🙂
Lastly and most importantly, we all stretched together in what Bern calls the “champagne room”. While we were there we chatted about a couple of topics…
- How it is always easier to make it to a workout if you have a friend or group waiting there for you (like at CrossFit or the Healthworks Workplace Warrior Challenge).
- How the 5:30 am class attendees are most definitely the Type A personalities and you never go to just TRY a 5:30 am class-you go because you are determined to go!
- It is nice to workout in the morning because you get it done and don’t have to worry about it later. You may regret having to get up early when you are laying in bed, but you never regret that workout that you got in. To follow up this topic, Bern asked the question, “What time do you all go to bed?” I was happy to hear that I was not the only one who passes out at 10 or 11 pm. Dave and I feel like old foagies, but we get up early so often need to head to bed early!
Do you ever like a torturous workout?
Almost always! There are few workouts I have regretted!
Have you ever had a friend help you get to a workout that you wouldn’t have made it to without them?
All the time! I might have made a new workout friend too at he CrossFit gym! We actually walk to work together after every class because we work in the same area!
What time do YOU go to bed?!
