Tuesday night Sam and I went to Katie’s core fusion barre class again. Even though my muscles still burned just as much as they did my first class, I still loved it! I’m glad Sam enjoyed the pain as much as I did because it’s always nice to go to a difficult class with a friend and help motivate one another to get through the class.
Before we started, Sam and I talked about how we wish we took the Healthworks ballet class when we were participating in the Workplace Warrior Challenge. Sam always wanted to do ballet as a child but never had the chance too, and I would love to be as flexible, graceful and as strong as a ballerina. These barre classes will help me aim for the stars and Sam check something off her to-do list!
These classes aren’t easy by any means and when I find myself struggling in the class, I keep reminding myself what the instructor Katie said:
“If you are shaking, it means you are changing your body!”
I am pretty sure every single part of my body is shaking at some point in these barre classes so this means big changes! I went for a run last night and felt great. I have excitement boiling up inside about the potential of training for another marathon. I’m not starting tomorrow or anything, but just seeing the light at the end of the tunnel puts a smile on my face! Actually I find it is when I do no exercise and just sit all day at work my hips hurt more than when I workout.
Through my injury and experiences recovering, I know that I’m going to become a completely different runner when I return to marathoning-smarter and stronger with less injuries! Some bonus points are that I’m toning my body, changing how I look and feel. No matter how far or fast I ran, I never toned my body as much as I am now!
Unfortunately, I only have one class left at Exhale BUT I have 8 classes at C2Pilates and 3 classes at Pure Barre that just opened on Newbury St. I also am determined to make it to Jennifer Phelan’s class at North End Yoga since I loved her Pilates bootcamp so much and she inspired me to get my Blake Brody’s. She’s got an amazing body and I can’t wait to look as toned as she does! Good thing I quit my gym and found so many good deals! Otherwise I might not be able to fund myself going to all these classes!

If you couldn’t tell-I’m addicted to the barre and can’t find a reason why you shouldn’t try a class at least once! If you go-let me know what you think!
Have you tried barre before? What inspired you to try it?
I was inspired by Jenn Phelan and hearing how great it was from word of mouth.
What is your favorite way to strengthen and cross train for running?
