I haven’t seen my friend Sarah since her wedding and it was about time I met up with her. We decided to attend a class at South Boston Yoga with the instructor David-one of the co-owners.
I got to the studio in usual Jess fashion-extremely early. I was sitting on the first floor waiting for Sarah to arrive and a woman had asked if I was looking for the yoga class. Apparently the class was on the 3rd floor…oops! Later Sarah pointed out this same woman, Stacey Schaedler, because she teaches the core strength conditioning class at the studio. The class sounds like a great workout and Stacey seems really nice so I am determined to get to this class at least once. I was able to get the $25 two week unlimited for first time visitors and I want to try to make the most out of it-especially since I loved this morning’s class!
David made the class challenging and definitely a different type of environment than I’m used to in a yoga class. David was cracking jokes and even referenced our class as a holiday party. It felt like it was a party because everyone laughed at some point in the class.
Every pose pushed me beyond my limits but there were always modifications available. At one point, we were instructed to do a side crane pose (Parsva Bakasana). I never am afraid to TRY a pose, even if I fall. Thankfully the man who was practicing next to me gave me a few pointers on how to position my hands and elbows and with his help-I DID IT!!!! I literally was all smiles after and thanked the man for the help.
There were a few other arm balances that I have never been able to do but somehow was able to at least hold for a few seconds in this class AND I had the opportunity to practice my headstand. If you want a workout, this class will definitely give you that! David also worked in a core workout for us that got you shaking and your core burning. I loved it! This yoga class reminded me (and I’m sure the other yogis) that yoga isn’t just stretching-it is a whole body workout that requires a strong body.
After the class, Sarah and I headed to The Franklin Cafe for some brunch, mimosas and girl talk. I got the chorizo and green chili omelette which was fantastic and Sarah got the veggie omelette. The server there was so sweet! She had asked if we just went to a yoga class and if she should try it. Of course Sarah and I belted out that she must go and that we would even go with her!
Since I missed Sarah’s birthday, this was a perfect opportunity to give her birthday/Christmas gift-the Lululemon post savasana tote in her favorite color (orange)! I am a bit jealous because I wouldn’t mind keeping it, but I have my Gaiam Everything Fits Gym bag that has been great so far.
Successful Sunday I must say! Now Dave and I must clean the apartment and finish up a few Christmas related chores!
Do you like going to classes that you interact with the people?
I LOVE learning from other people on how to better my practice or to do a particular move with the correct form whether it be yoga, lifting, running, Pilates, etc.!
Did you get your Sunday workout in?
