A few months ago B/Spoke Indoor Cycling Studio opened up in the Financial District. I wish it had opened sooner because it is pretty convenient to my former office!
I have attended about 6 classes now but want to attend some more before I give my thoughts of what I think about the actual classes. However, I can tell you about the studio!
About the Bikes
Reserve your bike online
Reserve your bike online to avoid having to rush in to get your favorite spot! If you are on ClassPass, you can call to request a certain bike, but there is no guarantee that you will get that bike.
Bikes have monitors so you can monitor your RPM, power, and time. However, they do not record your stats so that you can compare later.
The first time I rode this bike I realized that the handle bars were built differently than other bikes I had been on. They have a flatter surface on some areas of the the handle bars so that you could have a better and more comfortable grip. I really liked this feature of the bikes!
More about the Studio
I have become one of those people who doesn’t like to go to an indoor cycling class unless I can wear cycling shoes! B/Spoke does not have cages on their bikes because they feel this way too about anyone attending their class. If you don’t own your own cycling shoes, B/Spoke offers complimentary shoes with your ride!
B/Spoke provides complimentary bottles of water. They only ask that you only take one per visit! In addition to having the complimentary water, they offer the spiffy new water fountains that I’m starting to see more and more places. They also sell Swell water bottles which are my favorite so far because they keep my drink cold for so long!
Once you pass the front desk and past the studio, there are lockers lining the hallways. The lockers have a code so that you don’t need to bring any lock with you. My only wish is that they were a little bit deeper. My backpack can be monstrous and it doesn’t really fit very well sometimes. I did see something in one of their email newsletters that they are going to be adjusting something with the lockers and I’m looking forward to see what that is!
The bathroom in B/Spoke is high quality and has Aesop products. There are complimentary towels, hair dryers, tampons, makeup remover, Q-tips, and lotion-everything you need to get ready for your day!
The only thing on my wish list is that there was a little more room to get ready. When there is a long line, it can be tough to maneuver your way around or find a space to get ready. However, it doesn’t change whether or not I go to the studio because even though it is a little cozier in the locker room, it is way better than my own bathroom! Also, the people getting ready in the studio tend to take pretty quick showers and are considerate of other people’s time because they too also have to get to someplace.
Overall Thoughts on the Studio
This is one of the nicer indoor cycling studios I’ve been too. The interior has a nice industrial-ish feel to it. The bathroom is beautiful and the location is convenient, as it is located right of the red line, and not too far from the green line either.
I also love that they are building a community, not just providing a great workout. The studio hosts happy hours, special lunch rides, open ride sessions, and really takes the client’s feedback into consideration.
