My friend Kristina is running the Boston Marathon and raising money for the Boston Debate League (BDL). A tid bit from her page:
The BDL has been amazing for students throughout Boston Public Schools. Involvement in debate has helped keep students on track to graduate, improve their GPAs, and most of all, prepare them to succeed in college. Getting them to the stage to receive a diploma is only the first step. Making sure they have the analytical and interpersonal skills necessary to manage their time, work well with others, study for exams, and write term papers is even more important.
As a teacher, I’ve also gained much from the BDL. Like my students, I never thought I would debate in front of my peers. Through BDL’s Debate Across the Curriculum (DAC) training, I learned how to incorporate debate into my math lessons…starting by debating other teachers. Using DAC has made math more engaging for my students and given them new ways to delve deeper into content.
Your donations are the BDL’s primary source for tournaments, transportation, materials, and coaching.
