Dave and I love living close to the city because there are so many great places to get food. We could literally go out to eat every night and always have someplace new to go to that is pretty affordable and something different.
This past weekend we visited the Shops at Porter to check out Cafe Mami. We have been living in this area for over two years now and have never stepped foot in the Shops at Porter. It was about time we did.
Cafe Mami is a small restaurant with only a few tables and some bar seating. The kitchen is right in your face. Dave and I sat at the bar and could see everything being made and served. It felt like you had your own personal chef for the night.
I ordered the green tea milkshake and the spicy sliced beef rice bowl (Yaki Don) with veggies. The green tea milkshake wasn’t very big but just enough because it was rich. The rice bowl portion size was decent-I had some leftovers for the next day that I used for part of my lunch. I loved that it was such an affordable meal at $7.99 and an additional $1.50 because I asked for veggies. The beef wasn’t really that spicy, but I’ll let that slide since the flavor was so good and the rice was cooked just right.
Dave ordered the Teriyaki Hamburg Set ($8.99). He said it was a hamburger but much better with the teriyaki sauce, fried egg, baked potato and the side of sticky rice. I thought it looked pretty delicious so I may try a hamburg set next time or may have Dave get it a different one and I get a different rice bowl so we can split them both and have the best of both worlds.
I am glad Dave and I finally walked into the Shops at Porter and found Cafe Mami. It is a hidden gem and I can’t wait to go back to try some different dishes! I definitely recommend checking it out-just go prepared because it’s cash only.
