Dave is not into classes, but as you can imagine with me working for ClassPass and classes being a passion of mine, I want him to be!
I’m not too worried though because I know that with some time, I can get him into classes…
Dave didn’t used to like (long distance) running either. He would run 3-5 miles but no more. Then one day he decided to join me on my 10 mile training run. I warned him that wasn’t a smart idea, but he thought he could. He completed it…but felt sick for a day or two after that! He knew that I trained hard for my races, but didn’t realize that he couldn’t just join in. Soon he was determined to train too and we ended up signing him up for his first marathon! Running our long runs became our time to catch up on everything and get a healthy dose of endorphins.
Now that I’m not running as much (hip problems!), we don’t have that time together. Even though we can’t talk like we did while running if we go to classes, it would be fun to go together and suffer and gain fitness through the tough workout.
I know that there are some great cycling classes, bootcamps, and other workouts that he would really like. I already tried to get him to go to the “Bring on the Men” series at Pure Barre, but that was a failure and I will choose my battles wisely!
My next attempt was Flywheel.
I explained to him what Flywheel was like and he seemed interested. It is probably because he’s competitive and the thought of the Torqboard intrigued him. I had been bugging him for some time now and he finally caved. I got him to go to a class at Flywheel with me this past Sunday!
What did he think? He thought it was a really tough workout. He liked how the instructor Jessica Latshaw was very motivational and knew her stuff. He also seemed interested in attending class again because he wanted to improve and get stronger at indoor cycling. This is good news because I am going to convince him to train for the Pan-Mass Challenge with me again next year so I should get him going to cycling classes more!
