Christmas day for Dave and I always begins with bacon and cinnamon buns at his Aunt Maryann’s house. I know there are only two pieces of bacon here…but I definitely had about 4 more pieces because this bacon is so crispy and delicious. She makes her bacon by dipping it in flour first before frying which makes it extra crunchy.
After breakfast and socializing, Dave and I tried to work off some of the bacon and cinnamon buns with a 4.5 mile jog. That jog was my longest jog yet, but not willingly. Dave told me we would be going for 4 miles and on top of that he didn’t tell me last 1/2 mile be up a pretty big hill. Even though I might not have been the happiest camper, I made it and was proud.
My hips were a little sore throughout the run so I did some yoga stretches when we got back before we conquered the P90x Ab RipperX. I also toyed with a few arm balances that I had tried in my South Boston Yoga class this past Sunday, working my way towards a one-legged crow pose (Eka Pada Bakasana). I watched a video on the YogaVibes Strike a Pose section for some more guidance on perfecting this pose and intend on using YogaVibes to help me in the future with other poses too!
Christmas Day movies have become a tradition for us. After stretching and abs, we showered, refueled with some shrimp cocktail and corn salsa dip and rushed off to see Django Unchained before dinner. The movie was good but really intense-as any Quentin Tarantino movie. I often felt sick thinking of how slavery was back in the day and had to turn my head at some of the scenes. I thought, “This is why I’m an engineer and not a nurse or a doctor! I can’t handle the blood and guts!” But the story was really intriguing, you really grew to like some of the characters, and the humor thrown in there was good as well.
When we got back from the movie, I jumped into my NEW sweats and comfy t-shirt that Dave had gotten me for Christmas. He always says I need more sweats and t-shirts for lounging around the house, so he got me 3 pairs of sweats and 4 t-shirts!
Dave also helped with one of my other Christmas gifts-from his parents, my “in-laws”…a Kate Spade watch! I love polka dots and Kate Spade (remember Dave got me the Kate Spade Simmone jacket for my birthday?!). This gift was perfect!
Dave and I must think alike because I got him pants too! Since Dave only has ONE pair of running tights and they aren’t very warm, I couldn’t help but get Dave some fleece-lined tights. I also got him new running gloves and Jelly Belly Sports beans-he’s obsessed with those things!
But the bonus gift for Dave is that I am going to pay for Dave and I to take dance lessons! We always wanted to take dance lessons together and I don’t think that we will actually do it unless I make it happen. We are going to an open house in a couple of weeks to make sure we like the instructor and the style of dance and then take the plunge for a 5 week series for Argentine Tango!
One of my favorite things is to make Dave try new and crazy things with me. I almost got him a deal I saw on skydiving for Christmas, but I thought he might not be too happy with that. We’ll start with dance lessons first and then I’ll splurge for the skydiving 🙂
Did you get anyone any fitness related gifts?
Do you go see any movies on Christmas or watch any from home?
If we don’t go out to see a movie, we usually watch one at home! Christmas time is about food, family and relaxing!
Have you been skydiving? If you haven’t, would you?
Skydiving is definitely on my bucket list!
