A friend and fellow blogger Chrissy at Inspired Wellness Solutions had informed me that GapFit was partnering with local fitness studios in select cities to host free classes and give out a free pair of their pants! In Boston, GapFit partnered with Boston Body Pilates and I definitely could NOT miss this event! I signed up for the 7 AM Pilates Equipment class with Julie Canina.
I got to the class 30 minutes early…I know…I’m crazy! I always am nervous about the T being delayed so I play it safe. Boston Body also suggested I get there early since it was my first class with their reformer. I got there even before Julie did! Once she arrived, we headed up to the studio. As soon as I took off my shoes at the door I got compliments on my fun socks. I am proud to say that they were also really affordable! I got them at Target for maybe $3 (they might have even been $2.50)! I LOVE wearing high socks in the winter time and fun socks keep it interesting!
Luckily for me, getting to the studio early also meant I had first dibs on the free pants!! They had a few options for styles of pants but I went with the gfast capris which I changed into right away because I wanted to test them out! Then Julie introduced me to the reformer so that everything would go smoothly. She also reassured me that it was okay if I needed to call her over to help out. This was nice because you don’t want to feel like you’re being a burden on the instructor when you are the only newbie in the class! Surprisingly, some of my friends have had experiences where they did feel like they were a burden on the instructor!
The Boston Body Pilates machine was similar to the ones I’ve used before so I felt at home once I got on it-which is kind of ironic. Whenever my friends and I try to describe a reformer machine to others, we describe it as a machine that looks like it is meant for torture…and in a way…it really is! Sometimes these classes are so tough that you just want it to be done!
I was hanging out on the reformer waiting for class to begin and I decided to ask the girl next to me if she has been before. She had. I told her not to get freaked out if I am staring at her-I was new so might watch her to see how to do the move! I got to talking to her and she has gone to B-Tone Fitness just like I had! She said that I should be fine if I’ve gone to those classes. In her opinion, the B-Tone classes are more intense with strength and the Boston Body classes were more relaxing but still had strength components. She only attends the B-Tone classes every so often but regularly attends classes at Boston Body.
After completing the class, I agree that there is a difference between B-Tone and the Boston Body Pilates. B-Tone classes amp the volume up on the music and have my muscles burning more. Boston Body class seemed to focus a little more on flexibility in some of the moves. I enjoyed testing out my coordination with one of the moves where you had to kick up into the air. It kind of looked like you were about to jump off and fly. I missed the name of the move…I think it started with an “A”?
Boston Body was offering 20% off class cards for those attending the GapFit classes but I decided to pass up this deal because I need to use up some of my other deals first and might wait for a B-Tone deal. Every so often B-Tone has some deals where the classes end up being $10/class! Even though I’m not attending any other classes at Boston Body soon, it was really fun to try out a new studio. I think it is a great idea of GapFit to host these classes to get their name out their and to introduce people to studios they might not have gone to before. Boston Body Pilates was on my list, but I was so busy taking all my other classes that I hadn’t made the effort to go yet!
On my way out, I had a few exciting things happen…
- I talked to Julie about our love for the Blake Brody shoes! She has the Paige style which I absolutely adore. I wanted to get them but I resisted since I’m in saving money mode and I already have a pair of the shoes.
- I got complimented on my Sparkly Soul headband! One of the girls attending the class said it was so cute and asked where I got it!
- I bumped into Mika!! Mika and I have been emailing back and forth kind of like pen pals! She goes to BU and is really into fitness! I was bummed I couldn’t stay longer to talk but it was nice to put a face (besides a picture from online of her face) to a name.
- I walked out of the studio with another student and asked her if she had a membership or if this was her first class. She had a membership and said she loves it. I also somehow brought up the chocolate tour I went on last night-and she seemed intrigued. I told her to check out my blog for a recap of the tasting! I love meeting new people!
Great way to start yesterday morning! I realized how much I missed my morning workouts because I felt like I was more productive than I am on other days. I need to get back into the habit of working out in the morning!
Do you own any GapFit clothing? If so-what is your favorite piece?
In addition to the new pants I have, I have the GapFit Breathe racerback tank! I was planning on wearing it to the class but it was so early and I forgot to get it ready. I just grabbed whatever top was most easily accessible! I might use my 30% off coupon they handed out to get the Motion racerback tank!
What is the most recent compliment you have received? Given?
The most recent compliments I have received were on my socks and my Sparkly Soul headband. The most recent compliment I gave was on a friend’s nails!
