I still am not really back to exercising yet. This past Friday I went for a little jog around my block to see how my stomach felt. I felt pretty good but am still going to be careful and rest more to make sure that I don’t reverse any good that was done in my surgery. I will do some walking and maybe a jog around my block every few days. This whole recovery mode thing is killing me because I just want to be back at it. Luckily, I have to study so I am using this time to get as much of that done as I can.
I miss working out even more lately because there are always so many fun events going on in the summer. One of the fun events that I wish I could go to is the Glo-Cycle class at The Handle Bar this Thursday, August 29th. I visited The Handle Bar multiple times a week while I was training for the Pan-Mass Challenge. I loved going to spin versus getting up and getting out on the road during the week. It provided a high energy, intense workout in a short period of time and made my legs so much stronger for hills when I did go out for my long rides.
It didn’t take me very long to get addicted to regular spin classes, so I can only imagine how much I would love Glo-Cycle. There will be a live DJ playing all types of music while you ride for 45 minutes in a dark room with black lights and strobe lights. Even though the class is a little pricey at $25, I think it is totally worth it for the live music, pumped up, fun environment, and free t-shirt and bracelet. Hello dance party on your spin bike!
When: Thursday, August 29, 2013
Time: 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm classes
Cost: $25.00 (Includes a complimentary Handle Bar t-shirt with neon logo and a glow-in-the-dark beaded bracelet)

As you can tell, the Handle Bar team is definitely making spinning a more of a fun, social workout versus just a workout that people may initially dread. Believe me-so many of my friends are scared of spinning. But if they see the Handle Bar’s Glo-Cycle and Detox then Retox rides where you ride and then socialize after with drinks in the studio-I think they may be more open to trying it. In addition to the fun social events, the instructors add some spice to their regular classes by playing themed playlists. When Jay Z and JT were in town, there were Jay Z vs JT playlist and there was a “Bar Fight” where two instructors taught-one with old school hip hop songs and the other with new school hip hop songs.
I really can’t wait until I’m back spinning. I never thought I would say that. I always knew spinning was a great workout, yet I never made an effort to make it a part of my weekly routine. Ever since The Handle Bar has opened, it has been doing great things to make me want to back for more!
