You read it-I won a wetsuit! I squealed when I won it because I have been dying for a wetsuit! However, out of the triathlon sports, swimming was the most difficult for me to get motivated to do. I never felt like it would be a good idea for me to invest the big bucks for a fancy suit if I wasn’t going to be a good little triathlete and use it a lot.
Thanks to the Pumpkinman Triathalon and the sponsor Xterra, I got this suit for free! I know that I am going to have to put either a sprint or olympic distance on the schedule for this summer. I already have a few friends who are ready to go and get their swim on with me!
But you are probably wondering HOW I won this sweet suit. Well, I was on Facebook one day and I saw Pumpkinman post a giveaway contest where you had to tell your funniest story. I immediately thought, “I got this in the bag!”
I submitted my story and this is what I said:
My friends and I had decided to sign up for the Pumpkinman Half Ironman last year (see recap here). I had never done a triathlon before and running was my only experienced sport of the tri. Both swimming and biking were really new to me, never mind putting it all together.
My friends and I signed up for the Lowell Wildcat Sprint Tri (see recap here) to test out our transitions and get an idea of what it might be like at the Pumpkinman. Everything seemed to be going well-I didn’t drown and I made it all the way to the run.
My boyfriend Dave had been a spectator and was taking pictures every chance he could. I was still finishing the run and Dave was looking at the pictures. He thought something was a little off. Then he realized it…I had forgotten to take my helmet off for the run!!! I had realized 1/4 of a mile in that I had gotten too excited and just jetted off. I knew I wasn’t going to win this thing, but for some reason I didn’t take the time to take my helmet off. I had unstrapped the helmet and asked some nice spectators if they could return it to the transition area.
While Dave realized what was wrong in the picture, he asked our very experienced triathlon friend, “Are you supposed to wear your helmet on the run?!” She responded laughing and said, “What idiot did that?!” Dave laughed and said, “JESS!” Well, let me tell you-I didn’t forget to take my helmet off at Pumpkinman!
Though I was embarrassed at first, I always love being able to have a good laugh at something silly I’ve done. Also I’m pretty glad I forgot to take off my helmet because if I had taken off my helmet, I wouldn’t have been able to win this Xterra Vortex full sleeve wetsuit!
Yes…I had Dave take these pictures in the cold winter weather! But my body was nice and warm thanks to this fabulous wetsuit! After the photo shoot Dave said, “I think I get to wear this suit too since I photographed you leaving your helmet on.” I’m not sure that Dave will fit in this suit, but I would LOVE if Dave did a HIM with me someday! 🙂
