Day 3 of Thanks: Nick Votaw

Day of 3 thanks goes to a coworker of mine, Nick Votaw.

Nick played a part in me getting into running. I had been toying with the idea of running a marathon and I think it came up in conversation because he was running consistently. I remember he had taken my work photo and taped the head on a Runners World that he was lending to me to read (yah…I read magazines back then not just articles on my phone!). We also ran one of my first 5k’s together-actually it was my first race in Somerville-who knew I’d be living there later!

Besides helping encourage me to get into running, Nick has been a constant mentor and sponsor for me at work. He is empathetic, will give me his honest opinion, and help lift me up (like literally…do you see that photo?) in my career. He is a busy man wearing many hats at work and home but will always take the time to help me or talk to me about whatever is on my mind. He’s probably seen me at my best and my worst.

Sometimes I forget that I’ve known him for 12 years now. Yes he’s a coworker, but he also has become a good friend. I look forward to the many more lessons learned with you.
